Help Us Make a Difference

If you're a healthcare professional, chances are you got into this business to help people. But your schedule may not allow you to spend the kind of time you would like educating each patient on his or her condition or explaining why prevention is so important. Hilton Publishing can offer you the opportunity to help many patients all at once.

We're seeking help from physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists and other healthcare workers who are interested in writing books that can help people take charge of their own health. And don't let the thought of writing a book overwhelm you! After all, you are an expert. You see patients every day and know what information they need and what they are lacking. You can provide them with this valuable information. You have the knowledge and the access to information to write a book.

Do You Have the "Write" Stuff?
You have probably already done plenty of writing in your career: research papers for peers, articles for professional publications, proposals, perhaps even materials for patient education. What we're looking for at Hilton Publishing is a style of writing that "speaks to the patient", a style that is compassionate, informative, and easy-to-understand--something you probably practice every day when talking with your patients. In fact, it might help if you write your book as if you were writing to one specific patient--with the same kind of passion and compassion that you put into your work.

Also, remember that people can relate to stories of others in a similar situation. We encourage you to draw on your real-life experiences to create stories to help bring the message to readers.

At Hilton Publishing, you are not alone. We will provide you with an experienced writer who can help take the technical information you have and make it appealing and understandable to readers.

Getting Started
Still not sure how to start - how to put those first words down? Our writers and editors can help you work through that. You might try beginning with symptoms, then diagnosis and treatment, and of course prevention. Depending on the subject, you may want to detail what a family might experience going through surgery or treatment, and how they may cope afterward. Any advice you can offer on how to cut through the red tape and barriers that exist for some patients is also welcome.

We encourage you to read one of our other books to see how it can be done.

The Proposal
After you've thought about what you'd like to write, send us a proposal. (No, you don't have to write the whole book first!). The proposal should include:
  • A one-page summary of the book and your credentials for writing it. Include an explanation of why it is appropriate for our readers and how it compares to other books in the market. Tell us why you think the book will succeed.
  • A table of contents with a short summary (two or three sentences) of each chapter; and
  • A sample chapter of your book.
Send your submissions to 1630 45th Street; Suite 103; Munster, IN 46321. Please add a self-addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage for return.

We are here to help. Contact Rockelle Henderson, our Associate Publisher & Pharmaceutical Strategist, with any questions or to discuss your idea in more detail. She can be reached at 843.706.7028 or rockelle@hiltonpub.com.

Some Final Words
It takes a great deal of time and dedication to write a book. If we like your proposal and offer you a contract, you can expect to have a schedule of deadlines to meet. Make sure you can meet those deadlines before making a commitment. That being said, remember you have the support of the only publishing company dedicated to providing timely health care information to minority communities. We hope you will join us - because together we can make a difference.
